The BAWIFT email list, Chicks-Chat, is a way for members of our community to send and receive messages and group announcements all month long.


Chicks-Chat is a service for our members + the Bay Area filmmaking community and is a women only space. All requests to join Chicks-Chat must be approved by the List Monitor, so please include your full name and reasons for wanting to join the list with your request.

Here are some guildelines to make sure our list stays as informative and as helpful as possible.

There are informal rules of the internet which are termed netiquette to help people use proper etiquette within this form of communication. Some examples of poor netiquette are not signing messages, sending private replies to the entire group, or TYPING IN ALL CAPS (which is considered yelling).

  1. Remember that replies automatically go to the list, not the just the person who posted the message! If you want to reply only to the sender please remember you must change the "TO" field, otherwise your reply will be seen by the entire list.

  2. Turn off automatic replies or put Chicks-Chat on 'pause' when you go on vacation. You can find out how to do so easily by reading the FAQs below.

  3. Never send attachments because they will be automatically deleted before your message is sent out. If you need to send send some type of attachment, please contact the List Diva as it is possible that your information belongs on the web site.

  4. Many of today's email programs send styled text by default. Please turn HTML and other styled text off when posting to our list.

  5. Be concise as possible. Post overviews of the information and include a link to a website for more detailed information.

  6. Trim your messages. Please quote only the relevant portion of messages you respond to -- and please quote some of the original message so others know what you're responding to. Also remove all signature and footer lines from your replies.

  7. Don't use PGP encryption on your messages. A lot of people (probably most) won't be able to read your postings.

  8. When responding to a digest post, please change the subject to match that of the original message and trim the post to only the relevant portion.

  9. Please do sign your messages so we know who we're communicating with but keep your signatures to a minimum.

  10. Explicitly commercial posts with products and services not relevant to the film and television business are prohibited. Although subscribers may offer specific equipment and services to the list or share an exceptional bargain they have discovered, explicitly commercial posts are prohibited. Any address or domain posting such solicitation will be blocked. Without limitation, BAWIFT and its designees shall have the right to remove any Postings that violate the terms of use or are otherwise objectionable.

  11. Limit of Liability.
    BAWIFT and those acting within the organization are in no way responsible for any direct or indirect damage as a result from involvement with this list. You understand that all postings that are transmitted to or via the List (the "Postings") are the sole responsibility of the submitter. This means that the submitter, and not BAWIFT, is entirely responsible for the Postings transmitted through the List. Further, you understand that by using the List you may be exposed to Postings that are offensive, objectionable or indecent. You agree that you must evaluate, and bear all risks associated with the use of any Postings, that you may not rely on said Postings, and that under no circumstances will BAWIFT be liable in any way for any Postings or for any loss or damage of any kind incurred as a result of the use of any Postings.

  12. Please make sure your Postings shall not infringe the copyright, trademark, publicity/privacy right or other intellectual property right of any third party. Any address or domain posting such content will be blocked.

  13. Do not upload to, distribute through or otherwise publish through the List any Postings that contain viruses or any other computer code, corrupt files or programs designed to interrupt, destroy or limit the functionality or disrupt any software, hardware, telecommunications, networks, servers or other equipment.

  14. You agree not to make Postings that include personal or identifying information about another person without that person's explicit consent or that is false, deceptive, misleading, or deceitful.

  15. BAWIFT does not pre-screen any Postings posted by you or other users, but BAWIFT and its designees shall have the right (but not the obligation) in their sole discretion to refuse or remove any Postings. Without limitation, BAWIFT and its designees shall have the right to remove any Postings that violate the terms of use or are otherwise objectionable, as well as terminate your access to the List.

  16. Participants who post to this List grant rights to the List Owner to include their Postings in a searchable archive and grant permission to use the Postings as part of a complete list archive in other mediums. Participants may compile a personal archive of all Postings made to this List, but are not permitted to distribute, publish or make available to others such archived information without the prior express written consent of BAWIFT.

How To Pause or Resume Chicks-Chat

1. Go to our Yahoo Group home page and sign-in

2. Click the 'Edit Membership' link on the left hand-side of the top banner, right above the blue 'chicks-chat' banner.

3. Change 'Message Delivery' button to 'No Email' before you leave and then change it back to 'Individual Emails' or 'Daily Digest' when you return and want to receive chicks-chat again.

So with 3 easy steps you can avoid blasting our 600 woman list with a daily "... is out of the office" auto-response email.

How To Switch to the Chicks-Chat Digest

1. Go to our Yahoo Group home page and sign-in

2. Click the 'Edit Membership' link on the left hand-side of the top banner, right above the blue 'chicks-chat' banner.

3. Change 'Message Delivery' button to DAILY DIGEST and now you will receive 1 Digest of the entire list each day, instead of individual messages throughout the day.

How To Switch back to the 'Old' Message Format

1. Go to our Yahoo Group home page and sign-in

2. Click the 'Edit Membership' link on the left hand-side of the top banner, right above the blue 'chicks-chat' banner.

3. Change the 'Message Preference' button to TRADITIONAL and now you will go back to receiving messages in the 'old' format with bigger type and not all the bells + whistles of the new Yahoo Groups message format.
