Runners High

by Justine Jacob and Alex D. da Silva

When teenagers from one of the nation's toughest neighborhoods in Oakland, California sign up to train for a marathon, they begin the journey of a lifetime. Runners High is an intimate, character driven documentary of struggle, courage, and hope. During a season filled with conflict and possibility, four of these teens bare their dreams, joys, tears and fears. As several stumble under pressure in emotionally charged moments, others realize the journey begins with the power and commitment to accept responsibility for their own futures. Runners High shows that no matter what happens next, one season of training to run 26.2 miles can change your life forever.

Working for the Man: The building, burning and disappearance of Black Rock City 2000

by Susan Barron

The first in-depth "behind the scenes" look at Burning Man, which was shot in 2000 and premiered in 2001, started off as an undergraduate film thesis, but later turned into a year-long trip to the heart of the desert event and those who make it happen. Shot with a single D-8 camera, Docu-matrix Susan Barron's odyssey ended with a three-month stay in the desert with the Black Rock City construction crew (called The Department of Public Works), a hearty band of clowns, artists, scientists, ex-military, ranch hands and alternative thinkers who contstruct and dismantle BRC every year. "Working for the Man" is a raw, entertaining look at the event behind "The Event".

Voices of Dissent: Activism & American Democracy

By Karil Daniels

Award-winning documentary (6 festival awards) about defending our American heritage of First Amendment rights and civil liberties against government attempts to repress democracy and our freedom to dissent. Using events, theatre, song, dance, comedy, satire, music, poetry, interviews with many well-known personalities and the wisdom of our founding fathers, VOICES reminds us of our roots and the importance of protecting authentic democracy. It challenges anyone who would limit the freedoms and civil liberties granted in the Constitution and Bill of Rights as fundamentally un-American, even if they are our own leaders and inspires viewers to speak out, vote and actively protect our heritage of democracy.
